Athos Commerce incorporates Natural Language Processing (NLP) to automatically extract keywords from the existing product description field in your product catalog. The keywords pulled from your data feed are then used to improve product discovery for shoppers without affecting search performance of your site.
Who can use this feature?
NLP Product Discovery is available to any Athos customer on the Expert Tier.
How to enable the feature
Reach out to your customer success manager (CSM) here to enable this feature. Once NLP Product Discovery is made available by the CSM, you can activate and configure the feature under Search Customizations/Search Optimizations/NLP Product Discovery.
Initially, upon opening this window, you will see a single call to action (CTAs): the option "Activate Now". Once your CSM has activated the feature, you will also see a "Read more" link to this article in our knowledge base.
When you click the "Activate Now" button, a pop-up window will appear, allowing you to utilize the appropriate description field per your platform.
Alternatively, you can select the option "Select a Custom Field", which lets you choose the necessary field from your data. A drop-down menu will list all available field names. Below is pictured an example of custom fields you might see.
For merchants with a custom feed, the system will default to the "Select a Custom Field" option. In the drop-down list, choose the field within your data that corresponds with the most detailed product description (such as "extended product description" or similar).
Once this setup is finalized, the window will refresh and show a confirmation message: "NLP has been enabled". The system now will process the data on a daily basis.
How long does it take to show up in my search results?
This is a two-step process:
- Generate keywords with LLM = This process happens asynchronously from data sync and is processed once a day.
- Attach keywords during data sync = Data sync will pick up keywords the next time it runs AFTER it has been generated.
After all data has been processed, you will have access to an updated search preview, which displays a result match incorporating the search logic (including NLP). To see this information, go to Search Preview in the console and conduct a search using a term that you know will match the existing product description (or the field you chose to connect for the custom field).
Search results in which a term match was found for any keywords generated by this feature can be viewed via the search preview under "NLP Logic". The View Details window will provide an indication of when there was a match with keywords generated by this feature.

In the case where there is an NLP match in addition to a match on existing searchable fields, the "Matches in" section will have the appropriate fields and/or NLP indicators displayed.
