When customers search for a product, their search terms are fed through our spell correction algorithm. Merchandisers sometimes want certain words to be ignored by the algorithm. The spell correction blocklist grants merchandisers the power to prevent certain terms from being corrected.
When to Use the Spell Correction Blocklist
We recommend that you use the blocklist when you want shoppers to be directed to a Zero Results Page. A common use for the blocklist is to block brands that your store does not carry but that customers still search for. For example, a shopper at an online shoe store may search for "Nike" even though this store does not sell Nike products. Merchandisers may want to direct the shopper to a Zero Results Page to indicate that they do not sell Nike products. On the other hand, Synonyms can be used to direct shoppers to a similar page. Thus, for a search of Nike, you could configure the synonym of "Adidas" so shoppers searching for "Nike" will be directed to the results page for "Adidas".
Tip: Use the Spell Correction Report to identify correctly spelled brand or product names that aren't in your catalog that are being auto-corrected, then add them to the blocklist to avoid showing irrelevant results.
