When customers are searching for a product, sometimes they use search terms that are too broad (words that apply to all or most of your products), which makes their search results too large and not relevant to what they're looking for. To remedy this, you can utilize the Ignore Terms feature. On this page, you will define keywords to exclude from searches.
These terms will be ignored by search queries since they are not relevant to generating results. For example, searching for "Nike" on the Nike site is unnecessary, as is searching for "flag" at a store that sells only flags. For natural language queries phrased as everyday speech, such as "Search for a gold lamp", the system will ignore the words "Search for a" and will focus on the keywords of "gold" and "lamp".
Tip: Use this page to remove high-frequency terms that appear in many product descriptions but don’t reflect shopper intent — such as “style” or “piece.”
For example, a retail company specializes in power tools and carries several brand names that include the word "tool" — Joe's Awesome Tools, Working Tools, Red Tools, etc. Typically, a search for the phrase "Joe's Awesome Tools" would return results matching "Joe's", "Awesome", and "Tools". Because the site specializes in power tools, the word "tool" is redundant, so excluding "tool" from search will yield more relevant results and will most likely include only results from the brand Joe's Awesome Tools.
