Note: Before using this guide, ensure that you have the Klaviyo account with onsite tracking enabled for your store and that your Klaviyo account is receiving Athos Search events. Learn more.
Using the “Athos Search" event, you can create profile segments in Klaviyo to help you identify shoppers who have searched for something. To do this, you can use either Subjects (as pictured below) or Search Term Full contains.
Note: A search event is sent to Klaviyo only when a user clicks on a product after performing a search.
We recommend that you optimize your segmentation strategy with topical/affinity segments: Divide your audience by their interest in different product types and categories.
You can also build engagement segments in Klaviyo using other available data, and you can mix engagement segments with topical/affinity segments to create a powerful segmentation strategy. Below, we show how to create or update topical/affinity segments using Athos search events.

Example
See below for an example of how this might look in Klaviyo. Reference Klaviyo's help documents for more information.
Use Case 1: Create segments using Athos Events
For fitness enthusiasts
In this example, we show the setup for a segment of shoppers who have searched for fitness items and have placed an order in the last 30 days.
For fashion enthusiasts
In this example, we show the setup for a segment of shoppers who have searched for dresses within the past 30 days.
You can add these Athos search events to existing dynamic segments, or you can create new search segments to target shoppers with real-time intent.
Ideas for targeting
- Send an Abandoned Search Email (automatic with the flow)
- Wait two days. If there has been no purchase, enroll the contact in a related topical nurture flow.
Use Case 2: Create email flow for Search Abandonment
Some shoppers will perform a search and then leave the site without adding any items to a cart or completing a purchase. Create an email flow to re-engage those potential customers and generate additional revenue. You can learn more about these abandoned search flows here.
