This article will help guide you to verify site search tracking on Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Please follow the steps below.
- Log into your Google Account.
- In the Admin panel, navigate to "Data Streams" settings.
IMPORTANT: If you already have a data stream set up, you do not need to create a new one, but you do need to make sure that it is configured based on the instructions below.
- From there, select "Add stream" and select "Web" from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the URL of your website and stream name (the stream name does not matter).
- Ensure the "Enhanced measurement" is toggled on and then click the gear icon to expand this enhanced settings list.
- First, ensure that you have enabled "Enhanced measurement" as shown below. Then select the gear icon on the right to expand this enhanced settings list. Ensure that the "Site search" setting is enabled.
- You can further verify your Site search settings by clicking the "Show advanced settings" to verify that your site is using one of the query parameters listed in the box. If it is not, you can add it.
- The query parameter is between the ? and = in your website URL after completing a search.
- https://www.testshop.com/collections/shop?search=rugs
Note: Some sites use different search parameters, such as "searchterm". You'll want to ensure that the search parameter used on your site is included in this field. For example, use https://www.testshop.com/search.aspx?searchterm=dress.
- Be sure you save your changes before exiting the Enhanced measurement tab.
Note: Query parameters cannot have additional characters like "-" (but an underscore "_" is acceptable). If you need such query parameters, reach out to the Athos Commerce support team, as this change needs to be updated with your Athos Integration/White Glove service.
