Athos Commerce requires customer data to support a variety of services, including Personalized Messaging Recommendations and the workflow to pull your sales data from your platform.
Messaging Recommendations
Our Messaging Recommendations feature enables you to embed personalized recommendations into email and sms flows, so you can get the right product to the right person at the right time. To support this workflow, Athos uses your customer data to link customer IDs to email addresses and phone numbers. As such, merchandisers need to share their customer data with Athos in order to use this feature.
Email addresses and phone numbers are only used to identify and link shoppers to their online behavior. Athos stores a one-way hash of this data and does not use the data for any other purposes. . To learn more about how we use customer data, please visit the following article.
Sales Data
If you've asked Athos to pull sales data directly from your ecommerce platform, you must follow the relevant steps below to permit the data pull.
Shopify Customers
If you are an existing Shopify customer, follow these steps to grant Athos permission to access your customer data.
-
Log into the Athos Search & Product Discovery console and navigate to Data > Data Sources.
-
Scroll down to the Shopify connection and double-click it, or click the three dots on the far left and choose "Edit". In the Shopify Connector window, scroll down to the "Store Settings" section and the "Additional Data Access" setting below it. Click the "Grant Access" button. This will redirect you to the Shopify website, where you will grant Athos access to your customer data.
- Log into your Shopify account to verify the permissions.
- When this is completed successfully, the button on the Shopify settings page will now say “Revoke Authorization”.
BigCommerce Customers
Existing BigCommerce customers can follow the below steps to grant Athos the permission to access your customer data.
The following instructions describe how to create a new API token in BigCommerce. This is necessary because BigCommerce does not allow editing an existing API. To get around this, you can create a new API with additional permissions.
Note: Switching to this new API does not impact any of your existing product data or configurations; it simply introduces additional permissions without risking your current setup.
- Log into BigCommerce and click Settings in the Menu Services.
- Go to Advanced Settings > API Accounts in the BigCommerce Admin area. Scroll down to the “API” section and click “API Accounts” to grant Athos permission to access your customer data.
- Click the “Create API Account” button at the top right.
- Set “Token Type” to “V2/V3 Token”.
- Enter "Athos" in the Account Name field.
- Set "Content" to Read-Only.
- Set “Customers” to Read-Only.
- Set “Orders” to Read-Only.
- Set “Products” to Read-Only.
- Set "Themes" to Read-Only.
- Click “Save” at the bottom right.
- Copy the Access Token into a document. (Client Secret and Client ID are not needed.)
- Log into your Athos console and navigate to Data > Data Sources.
- Paste the Access Token into the API Token field.
- Click “Save” at the bottom of the page.
