Athos Commerce's Personalized Email Recommendations integrate the recommendations engine with your email service provider. In order to integrate email recommendations into your store, your Omnisend and ecommerce instances must already be connected.
Athos Commerce sends data to Omnisend that can be used to create personalized Email and SMS messages.
In the Athos console, from the main menu, select "Personalization", then click "Marketing Automation".
Click the Messaging Recommendations tab at the top of the page, then click the "+ Add New Profile" button to connect an Athos marketing profile with Omnisend. The following window will appear:
Select "Omnisend" and click the "Next" button at the bottom right. The following pop-up window will appear:
Select a campaign type, then click the "Next" button at the bottom right.
Select a recommendation type, then click the "Create Profile" button at the bottom right of the window.
A new window will open with the Profile Editor. Give your profile a name, as shown in the example above.
You will see three tabs immediately below the name: Template, Precision, and Email Layout.
Template tab
In the Template tab, click the drop-down menu and select a template to use. (There may be only one template available in the list.)
Precision tab
Click the Precision tab to configure how precise recommendations are. This value dictates how many conditions the system uses to find recommended products. Broad precision expands the recommendations algorithm to ensure products can be recommended even when shopper data is sparse. Narrow precision restricts recommendations to prevent the algorithm from defaulting to related products or top sellers; this could result in recommendations not being displayed for certain products.
Note: The Precision tab is only available on Similar, Cross-sell, and Cart-Cross-sell profiles.
The precision choices available will differ based on the type of recommendation bundle you are configuring.
- Curated = Curated recommendations will be limited to the products set in Product Rules. If the seed product does not have one or more products associated with it in a rule, no recommendations will be returned. For example, if merchandisers want to create a "Complete the Look" experience, they would set the precision filter to "Curated" so the recommendations carousel would only show the pinned products.
- Cross-sell = Cross-sell recommendations are used on a page to recommend products that go well with the product that the shopper is viewing.
- Similar = Similar recommendations are products that a shopper should consider buying as an alternative to the product they’re currently viewing.
- Trending = Trending recommendations are top-selling products across a rolling window of time. This recommendation type supports either site-wide trending or trending within a category or brand.
Note: Even if the broadest precision of "trending" is applied, these results will be used only if there are insufficient results from curated, cross-sell, or similar items.
Email Layout tab
Click the Email Layout tab to configure how the email will appear.
Desktop/Mobile Breakpoint
Enter the number of pixels to represent the width of the shopper's screen, at which point the responsive design will adapt content and layout to that size.
Note: The maximum number of items that can be recommended is 20.
Max items = (Recommendations per Row) times the (Number of Rows)
Desktop
- Recommendations per Row = This value represents how many product recommendations the shopper will see in one row on the screen.
- Number of Rows = This value represents how many rows of products will be shown to the shopper.
- Cell Padding (in px) = This value provides spacing around each product shown in the layout preview.
Mobile
- Recommendations per Row = This value represents how many product recommendations the shopper will see in one row on the screen.
- Number of Rows = This value represents how many rows of products will be shown to the shopper.
- Cell Padding (in px) = This value provides spacing around each product shown in the layout preview.
Recommendations preview
In any tab, you can type a search term in the Recommendations Preview search bar at the top right to find a product. The Recommendations Preview will be blank until you enter a seed item to use for recommendations.
Type in a word or phrase (such as a fabric, color, size, style, or activity) and click any item from the list that appears.
The system will auto-populate a preview of what a customer might see based on this profile. In the example below, the preview displays cart cross-sell items related to the selected hoodie.
Test Preview
Click the "Test Preview" button at the top right of the Email Layout section to see how the configured layout will appear to a shopper. You can continue to adjust the settings below and test the preview as often as you like.

Save the profile by clicking the blue "Save Profile" button at the bottom right. The system will return you to the main Marketing Automation page, where you will see the Omnisend profile in the profile list.
Managing existing profiles

Set up campaign via Omnisend
Log into your Omnisend account.
Click "Campaigns" in the left menu. Omnisend will display all existing campaigns.
Click the "+ Create campaign" button in the top right corner.
Select a campaign type: email, email A/B test, SMS, or Push notification. For this example, we will choose "Email".
Next, choose your email settings. Fill out the appropriate fields, then click the "Choose email template" button at the bottom right.
Now it's time to choose a template from those suggested, or upload your own template. (In this example, we chose an abandoned cart template.) The system will open an editor, where you can customize the appearance of your email message.
Use the menu options at the left to customize your email layout.
In the Athos console, open the Personalization menu, then click "Marketing Automation". On the main page, ensure that you are viewing the Messaging Recommendations tab.
Click the appropriate profile to view its details.
Click the "Show Integration Instructions" button at the bottom left of the window. This will display both the Email and SMS code to paste into your Omnisend template.

SMS tab:
In Omnisend, within the editing of content, click the "Add Elements" menu on the left and select "HTML Code". Drag it to any location within the template.
Copy the Athos code for the email content, or the code for the SMS link and the SMS image, into the Omnisend template for email messages or SMS messages.
Then click the "Preview & test" button at the top right to see how your email looks in action. When the Preview page appears, you will have the option to switch between a Desktop view and a Mobile view.

Mobile view:
Now you have the option to send a test email. Click the "Send test email" button at the top right. Add the email address and click the "Send" button at the bottom right.
Once you're done editing and testing your email layout, click the "Save & choose recipients" button at the top right.
It's now time to choose your email recipients.
Make any modifications, then click the "Review campaign" button at the bottom right. Here is where you can expand your reach by including SMS messaging along with the email, edit settings, edit recipients, and finally, scheduling the send for later or sending it now.
If you choose "Schedule for later", Omnisend will display a date/time selection, along with the option to choose a time zone.
When
When you're done making any changes, click the "Schedule Campaign" button at the bottom right if you're scheduling to send later, or click the "Send now" button to send the message immediately.
Once you are done, you will be returned to the main Campaigns page, where you can see the details of each campaign, including if it was sent, the open rate, the click rate, and any revenue attributed to the campaign.
